Newlywed game questions: 36 funny ones and how to play
The newlywed game in one line: one partner answers a question about themselves, the other has to guess the answer first. These 36 newlywed game questions work for engaged couples, newlyweds and couples who have been together for twenty years and think they have nothing left to learn.

How to play the newlywed game
- Pick a host (at a shower or party) or take turns reading (just the two of you).
- Read the question. The guesser writes down what they think their partner will say.
- The partner answers out loud. If the guess matches, the couple scores a point.
- Swap roles every question so both of you guess. With several couples, the highest score after ten questions wins.
- Allow “close enough”. A guess of “Italian food” for “my mom’s lasagna” counts.
For a bridal shower or a wedding party, the host asks the bride or groom in advance and reads the recorded answers on the day. The first section is the safest for an audience; save the third for when it is just the two of you.

What is the newlywed game?
A couples game, originally a TV show, where one partner guesses how the other will answer questions about themselves. Each correct guess scores a point. It is a staple of bridal showers, engagement parties and anniversaries.
How many questions do you need for a newlywed game?
Ten to fifteen per couple is enough for a party; it keeps the game under twenty minutes. For a date night at home, play all 36 in three rounds.
Can you play the newlywed game if you are not married?
Yes. The questions work for any couple. Dating couples usually score lower on the history round and higher on favorites.
